Located in the Lake District of Ireland, Blacklion is situated between Upper and Lower Lough Macnean and nestled on the borders of Cavan, Leitrim, and Fermanagh. The region is a haven for wildlife and lake fishing with Upper Lough Macnean renowned for fine course fishing.
The nearby village of Blacklion (7km) is conveniently located with shops, pharmacy, pubs and the five-star Macnean House, Restaurant and Cookery School, providing one of Irelands finest dining experiences. A short drive to Manorhamilton provides further amenities including shops, banks, and restaurants. There is also the Leitrim Sculpture and Arts Centre and The Glens Theatre, a popular arts venue within the town.
Sporting and recreation are popular in the surrounding area with Lough Macnean being a paradise for water sports as well as fishing for Coarse and Trout. Ancient and historical sites nearby include The Marble Arch Caves, Florencecourt and Cavan Burren Global Geopark. Local outdoor activity centres offer canoeing, caving, angling and bike tours. For the equestrian enthusiasts, Drumbaragh stables offer treks and lessons for all abilities.
Various sporting pursuits in the area include fishing, hill walking, wild swimming, water sports, golf, fungi hunting, flora and fauna walks, wildlife and bird watching. There is also the wonderful lakeside and waterfall walks on Lough Macnean, Claddagh River and Fowleys Falls to enjoy.
The scenic 26km Cavan Way is a hike which runs from Blacklion to Dowra through the Cuilcagh Mountains passing a myriad of prehistoric sites of interest. The area is popular with hillwalkers and cyclists for its scenic beauty. There are lovely lakeside and woodland walks which can be accessed from the property.
Golfing enthusiasts can enjoy Blacklion Golf Club set on the shore of Lough Macnean (6.8 km), Enniskillen Golf Club (28 km), the Championship course at Bundoran Golf Club (45 km) and Slieve Russell Golf Club which was voted the No. 1 best golf resort in Ulster 2018 (46 km). The award-winning Lough Erne Golf Club in Enniskillen also offers enthusiasts further course challenges.

The award winning Sheelin Antique Irish Lace Museum houses over 700 exhibits dating from 1890-1920. The adjoining Sheelin Lace Shop offers many beautiful antique Irish lace items for sale as well as bags, belts and chokers, handmade using vintage pieces.
Within a very short distance of Blueberry Cottages lies The Cavan Burren, a remarkable limestone plateau at an altitude of between seven hundred and nine hundred feet, which is now beginning to be recognised as one of the finest relict landscapes of its size in all of Ireland.
As a recent addition to the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark and part of the UNESCO Global Geopark network, this beautiful wooded area is teeming with examples of Neolithic and Megalithic structures including dolmens, tombs and hut sites. It is a veritable wonderland and an unmissable opportunity to see some of the history of the evolution of humankind in Ireland.
The Arigna Mining Experience Centre was developed to preserve the energy heritage of the Arigna Valley and to ensure that Arigna maintains its link with Energy themes: Past, Present & Future. This Energy Centre provides visitors with a unique insight into what coal mining life was like in the Arigna Valley, since its beginning in the 1700’s until closure in 1990.
Situated on the North West Trail, a recognised and signposted cycle route linking with the National Cycle Network and the Kingfisher Trail, you could not be better placed to embark on a cycling route that promises some of the most spectacular scenery in Ireland.
The 326km (in its entirety) route takes you through Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo as well as this section of Cavan.
